"MOLD"

Jonas Vansteenkiste and Arnaud Rogard start from their common interest in houses.
The idea of a (think)MAL, a mold or moule, is the starting point.
The mold is a form or residual space from which new things emerge. Just as a thought is created by a fusion of ideas and images, Arnaud Rogard and Jonas Vansteenkiste develop a series of houses of inspiration.
Just as the letters of an alphabet form words these houses gain meaning, their inspiration houses are the basis for their common image - language. Moreover, the English word for mold is mould. Mould also means mold. A mold is something that proliferates and can take over and pass on certain thoughts and emotions. It is at once also a clear nod to the humus layer of our sottobosco story.
During the residency at the EKWC, Arnaud Rogard and Jonas Vansteenkiste will work on individual ceramic houses. Those houses embody their personal interpretation of the concept of “home.”

In the next step, the artists fuse their houses together. They use molds (molds) to transform these individual constructions into one collective “in-between house,” a new structure resulting from their fusion of ideas and creative forces. This collective house symbolizes the interplay between personal and shared experiences of home.

The use of molds in this process is not only a technical choice, but also a conceptual one. Forming houses through molds reflects on the malleability and fragility of our idea of “home. As in nature, where forms adapt to the environment and to each other, Arnaud Rogard and Jonas Vansteenkiste show how our personal and shared experiences are in constant flux.
